Responsible palm oil sourcing policy

At CVS Pharmacy®, we are dedicated to providing our customers with quality store brand products. We apply robust standards to the production of every item to help ensure the highest level of product quality and safety. We continuously look for opportunities to develop new product formulations that meet the evolving consumer desire to use sustainable materials. Whenever possible, we seek to reduce, remove, or reformulate our products to use ingredients that are safe, effective and available. Palm oil is a versatile raw material and one of the most commonly used vegetable oils in a wide variety of consumer product formulations. Palm oil can be found in some of our store brand food products, as well as several home and personal care products.

As part of our commitment to sustainability, we ensure that all palm oil used in our store brand products comes from verified, responsible sources supported by delivery through fully traceable supply chains.

We expect all Store Brand suppliers of products containing palm oil that they should follow responsible palm oil sourcing practices. It is our expectation that suppliers of products containing palm oil obtain Rainforest Alliance certification or Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) membership. This expectation is communicated to all suppliers of products containing palm oil or its derivatives annually.

Palm oil sourcing, when aligned with RSPO and Rainforest Alliance practices, help to mitigate deforestation and its impacts on wildlife, biodiversity and local communities. . When new Store Brand products containing palm oil or its derivatives are developed, suppliers must demonstrate proof of certification before their products can enter our supply chain.

Oversight of this policy lies with our VP of Store Brands and VP of Compliance. It is reviewed annually.
