CVS Health Recognized as a CIO 100 Award Winner Company’s CIO Stephen J. Gold Named to CIO Hall of Fame

WOONSOCKET, R.I., June 1, 2016 – CVS Health, the nation’s leading pharmacy innovation company, today announced the receipt of two distinguished awards by CIO for excellence and leadership in information technology (IT).

The company was recognized as one of the CIO 100 Award winners for its implementation of an integrated digital pharmacy application. The 29th annual award program recognizes organizations around the world that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in IT. CVS Health was recognized for integrating three CVS pharmacy platforms where consumers can manage all their prescriptions from a single, self-service digital experience.

CVS Health also announced that EVP and Chief Information Officer Stephen J. Gold was named by CIO as a 2016 inductee into the CIO Hall of Fame. This prestigious honor is bestowed upon a select group of outstanding IT executives and visionaries who have had a significant impact on the IT profession.

“The combination of these prestigious honors further validates how Steve and his team have strategically leveraged technology to help CVS Health push the boundaries of innovation, digital leadership, and business value creation,” said Larry Merlo, president and CEO of CVS Health. “Equally impressive is Steve’s entrance into the CIO Hall of Fame which marks a distinguished career in IT and demonstrated excellence in technology leadership.”

Merlo also described Steve as a mentor to the thousands of IT colleagues across the company who deliver for CVS Health and its customers every day.

“Being recognized as a CIO 100 company and named to the CIO Hall of Fame reflects our customer-centric focus on helping CVS Health achieve its business goals,” said Gold. “We’ve worked in partnership across the enterprise to create a highly-collaborative and hard-working environment, where IT is a competitive advantage for our company and delivers technology-driven solutions that help improve patient outcomes. I deeply appreciate the dedication of our colleagues around the country who strive each day to find new and innovative ways to help people on their path to better health.”

The CIO Hall of Fame was first created in 1997 to spotlight 12 outstanding IT leaders who had significantly contributed to and profoundly influenced the IT discipline, the use of technology in business and the advancement of the CIO role. Ten years later, in 2007, CIO inducted its second class of honorees into the CIO Hall of Fame during CIO magazine’s 20th anniversary celebration. CIO continues to showcase this elite group of CIOs - now numbering 85 - during the CIO Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

“The CIOs who are invited to join our CIO Hall of Fame are always an inspiring, accomplished group of technology leaders,” says Maryfran Johnson, Editor in Chief of CIO Events. “The evaluation of each candidate by our alumni judges makes this peer-to-peer award deeply meaningful to CIOs, as it recognizes the business leadership they’ve shown throughout their careers. We are delighted to welcome these seven new members, and look forward to hearing directly from them at our CIO 100 Symposium this summer.”

The CIO 100 and CIO Hall of Fame awards ceremony will take place on August 16, 2016, which will be held during The CIO 100 Symposium at The Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
