Health plan to participate statewide in Commonwealth Coordinated Care Plus (CCC Plus) program
Richmond, Virginia — Aetna (NYSE: AET) today announced its subsidiary, Aetna Better Health of Virginia, is one of six state-contracted Medicaid managed care organizations recently awarded a contract for the new Commonwealth Coordinated Care Plus program by the Department of Medical Assistance Services. The health plan will participate statewide, expanding its service area footprint to include the entire Commonwealth of Virginia.
Commonwealth Coordinated Care Plus (CCC Plus) is a statewide Medicaid managed long term services and supports (MLTSS) program that will serve an estimated 214,000 individuals with chronic and complex health care needs, including older individuals and disabled children and adults. Many of these individuals are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid. The new program will launch August 2017.
Enhancing service, quality and accessibility with value-added benefits
“Aetna Better Health is committed to improving the health and lives of Virginia’s Medicaid population,” said Roger Gunter, chief executive officer of Aetna Better Health of Virginia. “In addition to our standard benefits, such as doctor and hospital coverage, immunizations, nursing facility, home and community based long term services and supports, medical equipment and preventive exams; we are excited that we will significantly enhance service, quality and accessibility of health care services for eligible CCC Plus members.”
Examples of some of these value-added benefits for eligible members include: regional wellness centers; enhanced dental and vision coverage for adults and children; hearing aids; memory care; a personal care attendant for high risk members in a nursing facility; expanded respite; home-delivered meals for post-discharge patients; weight management program with nutritionist-counseling; housing assistance solutions; a free cell phone program with 350 minutes per month and unlimited texting (to enable effective communication with the care coordinator and medical providers); and on-demand transportation.
All eligible members will benefit from the assistance of a care coordinator through the Aetna Better Health integrated care management program, a service that is especially valuable for those with chronic, acute or high-risk health care needs. Member Services will be available to all members 24 hours a day, seven days a week to assist with any member needs. This includes a 24/7 behavioral health crisis line and a nurse hotline for non-emergent questions.
A history of caring for our members, serving our providers
Aetna Better Health of Virginia currently provides access to services for more than 41,700 Medicaid members, delivered through its network of more than 9,400 individual providers, 1,500 ancillary providers and 65 hospitals in Virginia. The new CCC Plus contract will create an estimated 350 new jobs under Aetna Better Health and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
In March 2015, the plan received full health plan accreditation from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). NCQA accreditation evaluates how well a health plan manages all parts of its delivery system—physicians, hospitals, other providers and administrative services—in order to improve health care for its members.
Providers will continue to benefit from innovative technologies to support data integration, helping them identify gaps in care and preventive screening needs for members, expediting prior authorization decisions and identifying high-risk members who need preventive education and support.
