Coventry Health Care Teams Up With Four Provider Groups, Lowers Health Care Cost and Improves Quality

Monday, December 1, 2014

ST. LOUIS, MO — Coventry Health Care, an Aetna company, announced today a new health care network that gives Missouri residents in St. Louis and Columbia access to four well-known providers of doctors, clinics and hospitals. Known as FocusedCare HPN, the network could save individuals up to 15 percent on their current health plan premiums depending on individual factors and location.

The collaboration between Coventry, BJC HealthCare, Washington University Physicians, St. Elizabeth’s Belleville and St. Anthony’s Medical Center and Physicians is one of the largest health care networks in the region giving individuals and families access to over a dozen hospitals and more than 4,000 physicians. The network will tackle rising costs by focusing on higher quality care, increased collaboration between health providers and a better patient experience.

Plans will be available on and off the Health Insurance Exchange to residents of Washington, Ste. Genevieve, Boone, St. Charles, St. Louis City and St. Louis counties in Missouri; and Madison, Monroe and St. Clair counties in Illinois. Enrollment for FocusedCare HPN is available on the Health Insurance Exchange during open enrollment which runs from November 15, 2014 to February 15, 2015, directly with Coventry or through a health insurance broker.

With FocusedCare HPN, individual members can expect:

  • Access to FocusedCare HPN primary care and specialty physician clinics;
  • More coordinated, team-based care among physicians of all specialties and other care providers;
  • Enhanced patient experience through best-in-class care management programs and technology that delivers the same, up-to-date information to all physicians and care providers;
  • Lower overall out-of-pocket costs for members who see providers who are affiliated with FocusedCare HPN; and
  • Improved health care outcomes through a greater emphasis on preventive care, efforts to reduce hospital readmissions and post-care follow-up.

“This high-performance network is a solution for what’s been plaguing the health care system for a long time,” said Frank D’Antonio, president of Coventry’s Missouri and Southern Illinois operations. “Now, consumers will be at the center of a health care system that promotes wellness, provides better care for chronic conditions and uses economic incentives to reward positive health outcomes.”

Coventry, BJC Health Care, St. Elizabeth’s Belleville, St. Anthony’s and Washington University Physicians will measure care quality, efficiency and patient satisfaction by tracking:

  • The percentage of Coventry members who receive recommended preventive care and screenings;
  • Management of patients with chronic conditions such as diabetes and heart failure;
  • Reductions in avoidable hospital readmissions; and
  • Reductions in avoidable emergency room visits.

“We are excited to work with BJC and Washington University Physicians, Hospital Sisters and St. Anthony’s to offer an innovative health care product in St. Louis and Columbia, Missouri,” said D’Antonio. “When physicians and health plans work together, care improves for the people we serve. This new collaboration will provide physicians from BJC, Washington University Physicians and St. Anthony’s with useful information that will support more patient outreach, better care coordination and a health care experience that is simpler and more effective.”
