CVS Health Announces New Clinical Affiliations with Leading Louisiana and Kansas Regional Health Systems

Top of the article

WOONSOCKET, R.I., Jan. 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --CVS Health (NYSE: CVS) announced today it has entered into new clinical affiliations with two leading regional health systems to enhance access to high-quality, affordable health care services for patients. The collaborating health systems include the LSU Healthcare Network in New Orleans, Louisiana and Shawnee Mission Health in Kansas. Through these clinical affiliations the patients served by these health systems will continue to have access to clinical support, medication counseling, chronic disease monitoring and wellness programs at CVS/pharmacy stores and MinuteClinic, the retail medical clinic division of CVS Health. In addition, CVS Health will provide critical prescription and visit information to the participating medical centers through the integration of secured electronic medical record (EMR) systems.

CVS/pharmacy currently has more than 7,800 retail pharmacy locations across the U.S. where CVS pharmacists provide counseling to patients to help them be adherent to their chronic disease medications. Of the total retail pharmacy locations, there are more than 900 MinuteClinic walk-in medical clinics available. MinuteClinic locations are open seven days a week, offering evening hours with no appointment necessary and most health insurance is accepted. The clinics are staffed by nurse practitioners and physician assistants who provide treatment for common family illnesses and administer wellness and prevention services, including health-condition monitoring for patients with chronic diseases.

"We look forward to working with these leading regional health systems to develop collaborative programs that improve patient outcomes, lower costs and help people on their path to better health," said Troyen A. Brennan, MD, Chief Medical Officer, CVS Health. "Through these clinical affiliations, we will also be integrating our electronic medical records and information systems to enable us to support patients with medication counseling and chronic disease monitoring."

The health care providers at the participating health systems will receive data on interventions conducted by CVS pharmacists to improve medication adherence for their patients. The affiliation also encourages collaboration between the health care providers and MinuteClinic providers to improve coordination of care for patients seen at MinuteClinic locations. Physicians affiliated with the participating health systems will collaborate with MinuteClinic nurse practitioners to work closely on joint clinical programs and care coordination activities. If more comprehensive care is needed, patients can follow up with their primary care provider and have access to the services at the medical center as appropriate. For those patients who do not have regular access to health care, MinuteClinic provides information to help patients in finding a primary care physician and a greater opportunity for continuity of health care services.

"Finding cost-effective ways to increase access to care continues to be important, especially in this era of health care reform, and we are pleased to work together with these health care providers to help coordinate comprehensive care for their patients," said Dr. Brennan. "Many patients rely on their local pharmacist for information and support regarding their prescription medications and these affiliations enable CVS pharmacists to help improve affiliated health care providers' patient health outcomes through better medication adherence. MinuteClinic also plays an important role by providing patients with timely, affordable and high-quality walk-in health care."

MinuteClinic, CVS/pharmacy and the participating health systems will begin to work toward integrating EMR systems to streamline communication. This integration will include the electronic sharing of messages and alerts from CVS/pharmacy to the health systems' physicians regarding potential medication non-adherence issues. In addition, MinuteClinic will electronically share medical histories and visit summaries with the patient's primary care physician when they are part of a health system affiliate and with the patient's consent. MinuteClinic will continue its standard practice of sending patient visit summaries to primary care providers who are not affiliated with one of these participating health systems via fax or mail, with patient consent.

The new clinical affiliations announced here bring the total number of health system and health care provider affiliations for CVS Health and MinuteClinic to 50 major health systems and health care providers across the country.

CVS Health & Northside Center Partner To Enhance Mental Health Clinic Program In New York City Schools

Top of the article

NEW YORK, Oct. 25, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, New York City Councilperson Corey Johnson and Northside Center for Child Development, today announced a new partnership with CVS Health to expand mental health clinics in public and charter schools across New York City. With a $200,000 corporate grant from CVS Health, the new partnership announced at P.S. 161 in Harlem one of several schools where the Northside Center operates satellite mental health clinics licensed by the Office of Mental Health will infuse $50,000 annually to expand the mental health clinics' footprint and serve more children in New York City over the next four years.

CVS Health Chief Financial Officer Dave Denton presents a four-year, $200,000 grant to Dr. Thelma Dye, executive director of the Northside Center for Childhood Development. The grant will help expand mental health services to more schools across New York City.

Since 2010, Northside Center has operated mental health clinics in Harlem and the Bronx, currently serving over 300 students in 11 schools. By bringing these clinics directly into school environments, it allows Northside to meet students where they are, and more effectively serve children with a variety of emotional and mental health issues.

"We are incredibly grateful to partner with, and have the support of, an organization like CVS Health, who has made it their mission to provide individuals with the resources, access to treatment, and medicine they need," said Dr. Thelma Dye, Hilde L. Mosse Executive Director and CEO of Northside Center. "This partnership and funding allows us to continue to sustain and expand our mental health satellite clinics in New York City schools, giving us the opportunity to provide counseling and therapy for children from underserved communities, who may otherwise not get the treatment they need."

The partnership will help build upon Northside Center's demonstrated record of success in improving mental health and academic outcomes for children living in the city's most underserved communities. To date, the program has successfully reduced "no-show" rates to therapy sessions from 30 percent to less than 10 percent.

"Northside Center's historic commitment to New York City's children is unparalleled, and we are proud to support their life changing work," said David M. Denton, Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, for CVS Health. "These clinics serve students who need the most help, but often have the least access to critical mental health services. We look forward to continuing to work with Northside Center and city officials to expand quality and affordable health care so more children living in poverty can lead healthy and fulfilling lives."

Northside currently operates 11 mental health clinics in public and charter schools in Harlem and the Bronx.

Northside Center and CVS Health most recently partnered in May 2016 to host a health fair in East Harlem, which featured information from community health providers, free health screenings and services, along with gift giveaways.

About the Northside Center

Northside Center for Child Development is a non-profit organization that provides early childhood education, behavioral health, and enrichment services to low-income children and families across the New York City for over 70 years. Northside was founded by pioneering psychologists Drs. Kenneth B. and Mamie Clark. The Clarks' groundbreaking research, including the black-white doll studies, were critical to the 1954 Brown vs. Board of Education Supreme Court decision, which legally ended the segregation of public schools. Today, Northside Center provides children and families the support they need to overcome adversity and thrive. MinuteClinic Offering Hepatitis A Vaccine in Ohio Following Statewide Outbreak of the Virus

Top of the article

Unvaccinated residents can receive a Hepatitis A vaccine at MinuteClinic locations across the state

Vaccine supplies will be replenished as needed

WOONSOCKET, R.I., June 27, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- MinuteClinic, the retail medical clinic of CVS Health (NYSE: CVS), is encouraging unvaccinated Ohio residents to receive the Hepatitis A vaccine following an increase in confirmed cases of the virus. According to the Ohio Department of Health, more than 80 Hepatitis A cases have been confirmed across the state since the start of 2018. To date, Montgomery, Lawrence and Lucas Counties have had the highest number of confirmed cases.

All 64 MinuteClinic locations in Ohio have the Hepatitis A vaccine available for people who have not yet been vaccinated. Patients can visit MinuteClinic.com or use the CVS Pharmacy app to locate a nearby MinuteClinic and to hold a place in line at a nearby clinic.

Hepatitis A vaccine may provide protection against the disease if given within two weeks after exposure. People who have had Hepatitis A disease or previously received two doses of the Hepatitis A vaccine do not need to be immunized for Hepatitis A again. Symptoms of Hepatitis A infection usually appear two to six weeks after exposure and include fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, abdominal discomfort, dark urine, diarrhea, and yellow skin and eyes.

MinuteClinic providers can provide the Hepatitis A vaccine to children 24 months and older and to adults. It is administered in one primary dose and a second booster dose, usually administered six months later. Vaccine supplies will be replenished at MinuteClinic locations as needed. Patients should check with their insurance plans for coverage details prior to their MinuteClinic visit.

While vaccination provides the best protection from Hepatitis A, frequent hand-washing with soap and water after using the bathroom, changing a diaper, and before preparing food can help prevent the spread of the illness. Appropriately cooking foods can also help to prevent infection.

CVS Caremark Announces New Clinical Affiliations with Four Major Regional Health Systems

Top of the article

WOONSOCKET, R.I., May 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --CVS Caremark (NYSE: CVS) announced today it has entered into new clinical affiliations with four major regional health systems to enhance access to high-quality, affordable health care services for patients. The collaborating health systems include Hartford HealthCare in Connecticut; Memorial Health in Georgia, and Lahey Health and Baystate Health in Massachusetts. Through these clinical affiliations the patients of these health systems will receive access to clinical support, medication counseling, chronic disease monitoring, and wellness programs at CVS/pharmacy stores and MinuteClinic, the retail health care division of CVS Caremark. In addition, CVS Caremark will provide critical prescription and visit information to those health systems through the integration of secured electronic medical record (EMR) systems.

CVS/pharmacy currently has more than 7,600 retail pharmacy locations across the U.S. where CVS pharmacists provide counseling to patients to help them be adherent to their chronic disease medications. Of the total retail pharmacy locations, more than 800 MinuteClinic walk-in medical clinics are available. MinuteClinic locations are open seven days a week, offering evening hours with no appointment necessary and most health insurance is accepted. The clinics are staffed by nurse practitioners who provide treatment for common family illnesses and administer wellness and prevention services, including health-condition monitoring for patients with chronic diseases.

"We look forward to working with these health systems to develop collaborative programs that improve patient outcomes, lower costs and help people on their path to better health," said Troyen A. Brennan, MD, Chief Medical Officer, CVS Caremark. "Through these clinical affiliations, we will also be integrating our electronic medical records and information systems to enable us to support patients with medication counseling and chronic disease monitoring."

The participating health systems will receive data on interventions conducted by CVS pharmacists to improve medication adherence for their patients. The affiliation also encourages collaboration between the health systems and MinuteClinic providers to improve coordination of care for patients seen at MinuteClinic locations. Physicians affiliated with the participating health systems will collaborate with MinuteClinic nurse practitioners to work closely on joint clinical programs and care coordination activities. If more comprehensive care is needed, patients can follow up with their primary care provider and have access to the services at the health system as appropriate. For those patients who do not have regular access to health care, MinuteClinic provides assistance in finding a primary care physician and a greater opportunity for continuity of health care services.

"Finding cost-effective ways to increase access to care continues to be important, especially in this era of health care reform, and we are pleased to work together with these health systems to help coordinate comprehensive care for their patients," said Dr. Brennan. "Many patients rely on their local pharmacist for information and support regarding their prescription medications and these affiliations enable CVS pharmacists to help improve affiliated systems' patients' health outcomes through better medication adherence. MinuteClinic also plays an important role by providing patients with timely, affordable and high-quality walk-in health care."

MinuteClinic, CVS/pharmacy and the participating health systems will begin to work toward integrating EMR systems to streamline communication around all aspects of each individual patient's care. This integration will include the electronic sharing of messages and alerts from CVS/pharmacy to the health system physicians regarding potential medication non-adherence issues. In addition, MinuteClinic will electronically share medical histories and visit summaries with the patient's primary care provider when they are a member of a participating health system. MinuteClinic will continue its standard practice of sending patient visit summaries to primary care providers who are not affiliated with one of these participating health systems via fax or mail, typically within 24 hours, with patient consent.

The new clinical affiliations announced here bring the total number of health system affiliations for CVS Caremark and MinuteClinic to 36 major health systems across the country. These four new affiliations represent the first to include clinical collaborations with MinuteClinic combined with data on interventions performed by CVS pharmacists.
