We made history in 1972, when the Aetna Foundation became the nation’s first corporate foundation dedicated to community involvement. But the roots of Aetna’s devotion to community wellness reach much deeper into the past. Aetna was making major donations in the 1930s, treating circus fire victims in the 1940s, and spurring civic and social change in the 1950s and 1960s. Amidst the sweep of our philanthropic story are highlights that tell a larger story — of our country’s increasing focus on improving health equity, quality and outcomes for all people.
