Every minute of every day, someone in the U.S. dies from cancer.1 We know that those figures are just too high. So in 2014, we collaborated with Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) for an in-store fundraising campaign at CVS Pharmacy locations nationwide. Now in its third year, customers can support SU2C by making a $1, $3, or larger donation at the register or online at www.CVS.com/SU2C.
A Unique Model
With so many retailers offering in-store fundraising campaigns, it can be difficult to know which to support. What makes each one different?
We chose to offer the SU2C campaign in our stores because of its unique model, which enables scientists to work collaboratively, rather than in competition with one another, on “Dream Teams.” These teams include members from varying disciplines and institutions who come together to accelerate research and improve cancer care.
Teams also collaborate with other Dream Teams, sharing breakthroughs and best practices. In addition, SU2C’s research model has made it possible to bring new drugs to patients in record time, rather than the 12-15 years the average cancer drug spends in development and the FDA approval process. This accelerated research pace shows no signs of slowing, so SU2C uses the newest treatments and technologies to stay ahead of the curve.
Aligned With Our Purpose
“With more than 1.6 million Americans diagnosed with cancer each year, we know many of our colleagues, customers and communities have been affected by this terrible disease,” said Helena Foulkes, President, CVS Pharmacy. “As part of our company’s purpose of helping people on their path to better health, we’re proud to support Stand Up To Cancer as they accelerate research and bring new therapies to patients.”
New this year, CVS Pharmacy customers can also support SU2C when they purchase Nicorette® or NicoDerm® CQ®, which help reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms associated with quitting smoking. For every box of Nicorette® or NicoDerm® CQ® purchased at CVS Pharmacy through October 1, 2016, GSK Consumer Healthcare will donate $1 to Stand Up To Cancer, up to $100,0002.
