This year's CVS Caremark All Kids Can Baseball Camps brought nine baseball teams from various towns and cities in Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire to Fenway Park - providing a memorable sports experience to nearly 200 children, their coaches and family members. Since the inception of the CVS Caremark All Kids Can Baseball Camps, 54 camps have been held at Fenway, reaching approximately 900 New England children with disabilities.
"We have been thrilled with the success of these camps and the number of New England children that have been able to participate," said Eileen Howard Dunn, Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications and Community Relations for CVS Caremark Corporation. "These kids face all kinds of challenges on a daily basis, yet when they come to Fenway to participate in one of our All Kids Can Baseball Camps, you see the sheer joy on their faces in being part of the Fenway Park experience. We're happy to be teaming with Dave Magadan and the Red Sox on this wonderful program, which embodies the mission of our All Kids Can program."
Boston Red Sox Hitting Coach Dave Magadan said, "The camps give the kids a chance to forget about their every day problems -- their various health challenges and illnesses. There's nothing like baseball to make you forget about your troubles. I don't know who has more fun...me, the parents, the coaches or the players themselves, but just seeing the looks on the players' faces and how they light up when they get to swing a bat at Fenway makes it all worth it."
Each CVS Caremark All Kids Can Baseball Camp included hitting tips and instruction in the Red Sox batting cage with Magadan, as well as on-field batting practice; a photo opportunity and lunch in the Red Sox dugout; a visit from Red Sox mascot Wally the Green Monster; a VIP tour of Fenway Park; early entry to the evening's Red Sox batting practice; and tickets to the evening's game in the CVS/pharmacy Family Section.
In planning the camps, CVS Caremark reached out to coaches of Little League Challenger Teams, Miracle League teams and inclusive baseball teams in the New England area to apply for an opportunity to attend one of nine camps. The camps are part of a continued partnership between CVS Caremark and the Boston Red Sox, demonstrating their shared commitment to local children with disabilities.
The camps are part of CVS Caremark's national philanthropic All Kids Can program, which focuses on helping children with disabilities learn, play and succeed in life.
About the Little League Challenger Division
The Challenger Division was established in 1989 as a separate division of Little League Baseball to enable boys and girls with physical and/or developmental challenges, ages 5 to 18, to enjoy the game of baseball along with the millions of other children who participate in this sport worldwide. Teams are set up according to abilities, rather than age, and can include as many as 15 to 20 players.
