Tuesday, October 3, 2006

Woonsocket, Rhode Island: CVS/pharmacy is celebrating American Pharmacists Month during October by recognizing its pharmacists' commitment to serving their patients and their communities.

"Every day, our pharmacists demonstrate their commitment to delivering world-class pharmacy service in their communities. Their hard work and dedication is instrumental in making CVS/pharmacy the easiest pharmacy for our customers to use," said Tom Ryan, RPh., Chairman, President and CEO of CVS/pharmacy.

"This was never more evident than during the rollout of the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit earlier this year, during which our pharmacists connected with nearly a half-million seniors; making home phone calls, answering questions during Medicare Tuesdays, and assisting seniors compare the different benefit plans. These efforts reflect the critical role pharmacists play as the most accessible members of the health care profession," added Ryan.

CVS employs more than 17,000 pharmacists in 6,200 stores across 43 states. It is promoting American Pharmacists Month throughout October with:

  • Customer service awards for pharmacy team members
  • In-store audio information
  • In-store communications to customers on prescription bags

American Pharmacists Month was created by the American Pharmacists Association (APhA), the largest professional association of pharmacists in the United States, to educate the public about the pharmacist's role in improving medication use and advancing patient care. The campaign is designed to encourage pharmacy patients to "Know Your Medicine, Know Your Pharmacist."
