State leaders and CVS Health colleagues recently celebrated the expansion of the company’s safe medication disposal program in select CVS Pharmacy locations across the state of Wisconsin.

The program is part of CVS Health’s ongoing efforts to combat the opioid epidemic nationwide. The disposal units help facilitate proper and timely disposal of unused or unwanted opioids and other medications.

Attorney General Brad Schimel joined CVS Health’s Chief Policy and External Affairs Officer Thomas M. Moriarty at a CVS Pharmacy in Green Bay, Wisconsin, to highlight how important disposal efforts are in combatting opioid misuse.

“CVS Health is dedicated to addressing and preventing opioid abuse in the communities we serve in Wisconsin and across the country,” said Moriarty. “Expanding our safe medication disposal program is one of the many initiatives we support to fulfill that commitment and to deliver on our company’s purpose - helping people on their path to better health.”

The expansion of safe medication disposal units to a total of 750 CVS Pharmacy locations across the U.S. was included among the enhancements to the company's strategy to address and prevent opioid abuse announced in September 2017.

Medication disposal boxes donated by CVS Health are also located in 41 law enforcement agencies in Wisconsin.
