Expanding Access to High-Quality Care

One in three Americans view access to quality care as the most important health priority in their community.https://www.healthypeople.gov/2020/topics-objectives/topic/Access-to-Health-Services To meet these health care needs, CVS Health is bringing high-quality care closer to home in communities across the nation.

Delivering Quality Care, Locally

Research shows American adults only receive recommended care about 55 percent of the time,https://www.qualityforum.org/Setting_Priorities/Improving_Healthcare_Quality.aspx with factors like distance to health care sites and concerns about affordability impacting the ability to access the care they need. To help patients overcome these challenges, we are committed to bringing health services and support closer to home and addressing cost-related barriers to care.

Providing the Right Care at the Right Time

The time of day when patients need care doesn’t always align with regular business hours, which can lead to utilization of higher-cost care sites, like the emergency room (ER), for non-emergency care. In fact, experts have found that between 13.7 and 27.1 percent of all ER visits could be treated in a retail or urgent care clinic, where savings could be as much as $4 billion each year.

CVS Health offers a number of locally accessible care locations in the community that can help patients get the care they need after hours and in between doctors’ visits. More than half of the U.S. population lives within 10 miles of a MinuteClinic, where they can receive more than 125 preventive and acute health care services. For patients with complex conditions needing infusion therapies, Coram provides treatment, education and support through accessible community locations and in the patients’ own home, leading to comparable or better health outcomes at a lower cost.

Improving Care Coordination and Integration

Increasing integration across health care providers and settings can help improve health outcomes and reduce costs to the system. Health leaders rank care coordination as one of the biggest challenges to address in order to improve population health,https://www.usa.philips.com/a-w/about/news/archive/standard/news/press/2017/20170215-philips-survey-himss-top-focus-health-it-investments-population-health.html# making it a priority for all parts of the health care system. CVS Health is committed to increasing connectivity across the health system, facilitating collaboration between our CVS Pharmacy and MinuteClinic health care practitioners and other health care providers to help patients get the comprehensive support they need.
